Uploading a new photo avatar

Hello. How do I change my avatar picture please? I follow 'change picture/upload new picture' without any difficulty but nothing actually changes. Using a MacBook in case that's relevant. Thanks in advance.

    @pease is the person who knows most about the tech side. It’s been a while since I changed mine but I dimly remember you may need to ensure the aspect ration of the image is right for the software.

    Thank you. What's surprised me is that I'm not getting an error/advice message - it's just that nothing happens!

    A possible cause is that the image (file) size is too large, which doesn't always generate a visible error. Try significantly reducing the size (eg by reducing the resolution) and giving it another go.
