  • Congratulations @The Intrepid Mrs S ! And to the family. Best of news.
  • @The Intrepid Mrs S Hooray for a successful delivery of your second grandson, and well done to you and Intrepid Mr S for holding the fort with grandson number one!

    @basso What a lovely story!!!
  • @basso when my brothers were born, much later than I, my mother spent months in hospital waiting for each of them. At the time no one younger than 16 was allowed on the maternity ward, so I used to stand outside and look at her through the window. I was 12 at the time. Very occasionally, when the sister wasn't on duty, I was smuggled in to sit under the bed, luckily there were no dust bunnies in those days.

The second time, my first brother was only 18 months old and by the time our mother came home he had all but forgotten her in favour of me :heartbreak:

Congratulations to the Intrepid family. Hope grandson number 2 is home very soon. I well remember my mum being in hospital when my brother was born. he was born just before Christmas and she was kept in over the holiday. I remember being extremely miffed by it all.
  • For the safe return of the elderly lady missing for several days near here, in the Deep Dark Forest. For the CCTV, no less, which picked her up in a local car park, where she was found hiding in undergrowth.

Hurrah for good news, especially good news about tiny persons.
  • Little Beaky will be admitted to St Thomas's Hospital, London a week tomorrow. He will stay for five days and we will take it turns to be there with him.
The medics want to observe/ monitor him and experiment with a new drugs regime and diet to try and ease his misery. Still no news on a surgery date but this is definitely something we are thankful for as he has had a wretched almost four months.

I had a lovely catch-up with some old school friends when we were in Orkney, most of us having met in 1967, and some of whom I hadn't seen for nearly 40 years. :flushed:

Praise for the kindness of strangers. I've been looking after my ten year old nephew yesterday and this morning as his mum had to work and his dad is still in hospital. Two shop workers have asked him if he's having a nice holiday and when he explained no as his dad is seriously ill they've been brilliant. The right mix of sympathy and 'don't worry it'll be fine.'

    Oh, good, @Sarasa !
  • The kindness of strangers can make a huge difference....

As mentioned on a couple of other threads, I received an eviction notice a couple of months ago. It comes into effect in 3 weeks. Today, I have secured my next home. No longer renting, but owning a leasehold. I move in 2 weeks.
  • Sipech - over the moon for you!!!! Hooray, hooray, hooray!
  • Wonderful news!! May all fall into place.

My 14 year old grandson for whom you may have prayed, has had a really bad year at home and at school of bad behaviour, many detentions, suspension, and much more and worse, but it seems as if he may have turned a corner. (Note my cautiousness. )
    If so, praise be!
I spent a lovely day with him today. He was a great companion, and seems ready to make a fresh start in Year 10, beginning his GCSEs with a positive attitude.
I do hope and pray this is so.

Great news, Sipech. When is the housewarming party to which the entire Ship will be invited?
  • ... and moving in, of course?

I was considering a very Shippie alternative, whereby go to a nearby church with the smallest congregation we can find and then do a mass(!) Mystery Worship. We fill the pews with shipmates and write up about how bad the singing was, how bewildered the minister appeared to be and how we drank all the after-service tea & coffee.

Sipech, that would be a fun get-together!!!
    Congratulations on the new place!
  • That must feel so good to have security at last, Sipech.
    Really happy for you
  • Yesterday I accepted an offer on The Dowager's house, from a really nice couple who I am sure will love living there and will get on well with the neighbours. Just praying everything goes smoothly now...

All the very best with your purchase, @Sipech !

Excellent news, Mrs. S! We're kind of at that stage too - we accepted an offer for Dad's house a couple of weeks ago (also from a lovely couple, who really loved the house even in its present dated state), and we're waiting at the moment for their solicitors to finalise the sale of their house.
  • Congratulations Mrs S and Piglet!

  • The right house, for the right person, on the right day, at the right price! Fingers crossed all round ...

Brilliant news both @Piglet and @The Intrepid Mrs S . Having recently just sold my mother's flat the relief when it's all done and dusted is wonderful. Hope you are enjoying your new place @Sipech .
  • A dear friend had a successful operation today, and is in the recovery room. My daughter was offered a promotion at work. And my brother straightened out a computer snafu that was making him unhappy. Three things to be thankful for!

    That's wonderful, Nicole!
  • Sounds good Nicole!
  • The guys who came to collect the divan which had been issued for my guest, so that I can have a hospital bed delivered tomorrow, and came at 9.30, so I don't have to spend the whole day waiting. Hooray. Hope tomorrow has a similar timing.
