  • Had an update from SiL about his friend N, mentioned on the Prayer thread some weeks ago. He now has good vision in one eye, not so hot in the other and needs a further 'procedure' in July - but hallelujah, he can now drive and work again! Heartfelt thanks to all who prayed for him, and especially to the God who answers our prayers

Glad to hear it, Mrs. S. - prayers will continue to ascend!
  • Amen!

P&T today for a very good turnout at Our Place, with a number of visitors and newcomers - possibly due to NewPriest Syndrome, IYSWIM, but Father NP has been assiduous (to say the least) in visiting, and pastoral care, in the two months he's been with us so far.

I, OTOH, was absent....but taking an AwayDay trip to my local church - which is also happy and flourishing under the guidance of its shiny new Lady Vicar! TBTG!

I witnessed the wedding of two Quaker Ffriends yesterday, a wonderful occasion. Was the first such ceremony I’d been to.

Munson the Giraffe passed his driving test today! I am now substantially poorer (insurance on the newly passed is horrendous) but so pleased for him. He has just departed to give a lift to a friend. Just as well I was planning to cycle to my evening meeting!
  • How wonderful!

Congrats to the fully mobile Giraffe! And the cycling mother.
  • Well done to the Giraffe

I have opened normal communications with the horse rider, thanks to the bodyshop quote coming as a pdf. She has allowed me her email address. But will be away from accessing it until next week, when she will have a fit or two at what the work can cost. Hopefully she will now agree to the first one.

Also thanks to the community nurse who has persuaded my guest to change her pads - hopefully several times a day, but she is already falling behind. I have put a specially big bin in her toilet.
  • A word of thanksgiving for the gifts of healing and caring that God has placed in the hands of so many doctors and nurses, and for the caring people who sail the seven seas on this ship.

Praise and thanksgiving that The Rev. Shannon MacVean-Brown has been elected 11th Diocesan Bishop for the TEC Diocese of Vermont! The “Brave Little State” that elected MaryAdelia McLeod, the first female diocesan bishop of TEC, in 1993 has now elected the first female African American Diocesan Bishop in TEC’s Province One (New England area). Her consecration is scheduled for Sept. 28. [/URL]https://diovermont.org

Wonderful - I am so pleased to have lived to see the day...
    Thanks for the update!

That the horse rider will be paying the cost of the work on my car into my bank account shortly. Following my getting a second quote which was nearly twice the last one!

Glad to hear you're sorting things out, Penny.

YaY, the City council had promised that they would return the water to it's usual state of no longer tasting like a public swimming pool - and they have - I might even vote them back in later this year. One of the things I love about Christchurch is the acquifer fed water supply.

I know on a global scale, that just being able to turn on a tap for potable water is a huge privilege - time to make another donation to a well digging charity I think.

Arrived home a bit weary at 8.30pm, having spent the day visiting my parents and there, on my doorstep, was a plate piled high with cakes, and covered in clingfilm!

Praise and thanksgiving for Muslim refugees, Eid and CAKE!

The G4S patient transport driver who was so concerned about D's inabilities to a) walk from the transport, b) get from a wheelchair into the house, c) get out of the chair she was eventually decanted into, in the hall, next to the loo, that he spent ages on the phone trying to get a sensible outcome about the stairs they said they had tested her ability on. And the rapid response occupational therapist who was similarly concerned about the situation, but could not get the 111 and the 999 people to recognise enough of an emergency to get D taken back, though did get them to be concerned as well. They really went beyond their defined duties.
No good came of it, but not their fault.
And if she had gone back to her own place, and if it had been got up to spec., she would still have not been in a fit state to live there. She cannot leave the chair she is now in (upstairs), or eat more than a bite or two, or drink more than the occasional sip.

She really ought to be in proper, full-on care.

    Ah-men, Piglet.

  • Today I award P and T for and to the Angel Of The Lord who, disguised as a member of the petrol-station staff, prevented me from wrecking the Episcopal Chariot in the car wash.

I entered the car wash at an awkward angle, owing primarily to a Senior Moment, failed to straighten out the Chariot's position properly, and only realised my mistake when the wash machine began its inexorable approach. The AOTL suddenly appeared, and with some effective hand gestures, directed me very quickly into the correct position between the guide rails.

P & T for those who took part in Operation Overlord, the Western Allies operation to invade Northern France as part of the liberation of Europe from Nazism and Fascism.

That was 75 years ago. Few of those are around now, so if you have the opportunity to thank any of them, please do so.
  • Amen to that.
  • Indeed. Alas, we may soon need another generation of such people...
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Yea and amen, but BF, I sincerely hope you're wrong.

A small thing in the Grand Scheme Of Things, but thanks be to God and Immigration Canada that our renewed Permanent Residence cards arrived yesterday, on the first attempt of sending off the forms.

    Hurrah!

    Brava, Piglet!
  • A load off your mind , there, Piglet. Good news.
  • Hallelujah!

I am sure it doesn't feel like a small thing.

Indeed - it means we can think about booking flights to go to Scotland for my niece's wedding in August without worrying that they won't arrive on time* and maybe even get them when there's still a couple that don't cost $bazillions.

We're hoping that, when fiscal restraints permit, we'll apply for Canadian citizenship, which we understand lasts for life ...

    * or worse, like last time, have the forms returned two days before we left on holiday, saying there was something wrong with the photographs, but not saying what. This resulted in two days of our holiday being wasted by going to the passport office in London to fill in new forms and get a special sticker in our passports that would let us back into Canada.
  • Really good news, Piglet
  • Oh frabjous day and hallelujah, after SIX MONTHS the M48 bridge into Wales (the old Severn Bridge) is fully open and toll-free!

As I remarked to Mr. S only on Thursday - when ALL Wales-bound traffic was directed on to the M48, off the M48 and round a roundabout into a single lane, back on to the M48 - I would happily pay at least £5.60 to avoid that traffic horror. Now I don't have to!

My PET CT (ie Cancer Scan of Whole Bod, all terribly technical in state of the art Machine that goes "bzzz, bzzzzzz, bzzz" every few seconds) came back ... and the family doctor summed it up with the word: "STABLE"
I won't read the whole document myself - I did read my first 2 but it is tedious and lousy quality print-out that will have me at the optician if I am not careful!

Thanks for Thoughts and Prayers, to all !!!!!

Very happy to hear this, Galilit.
  • Such good news, Galilit
  • Amen to that!

    Brava, Galilit!
  • A prayer that sprang quite spontaneously from my lips yesterday -

'Lord, what did I do that you should show me such mercy?'
  • RossweisseRossweisse Hell Host, 8th Day Host, Glory
    That's beautiful, Mrs. S.
  • It is!

LL is now officially an Eagle Scout.
  • Obviously this is a good thing but could you explain it a bit please?
  • GalilitGalilit Shipmate
It's a Queen's Scout except in USA they don't have one but they do admire the eagle
  • Thank you
