Having some tiresome back trouble, but was much encouraged by a young and enthusiastic new GP this morning. What a difference that can make! Worth giving thanks for.
Excellent, ST - hope he/she can find an effective treatment for you.
Thank you, Piglet. Dr M is one of those medics with the gift of making you feel better just by his infectious cheerfulness and obvious enthusiasm for his work.
Shipmates may recall my comments about my (not really) employer BurgerPalace. Things have been going a bit pear-shaped for them lately, and they've been paring hours back pretty dramatically.
I need those hours, so I finally applied at the Trader Joe's down the street.
I got a call back and scheduled an interview. I start a week from Saturday. I'll be getting more reliable hours and considerably more money.
TJ's has a great reputation as a place to work, and I'm looking forward to the change.

Congratulations, basso! I've often noticed how many long-term employees there are at my local TJ's, and assumed the low turn-over said good things about how they treat their employees. Seems like it should be a fun place to work -- even the customers are much nicer there than in our "regular" grocery stores. (Do you get an employee discount?)
I have been for second visit to new GP since moving here. Fingers and other major joints have been fairly immobilised for a long time from arthritis. Previous GP flatly refused arthritis medications and no one else was close. This was his response to anyone about such things.
Today I discovered that after a month of specialised tablets that I could easily raise my right arm to close to vertical. Left is not improved as much but definitely better. Fingers have lost much of the swelling which affected use. I could put arms out horizontally in front of me, but to raise them in
air was next to impossible. I am very pleased with improvement as was GP when I saw her.
After years of being the one in the family who could open any jars despite a husband and three sons, I lost that ability. Yesterday I opened a new jar of peanut butter without even realising what I was doing.
I had prepared a longish thanks the other day, but it somehow vanished, not even leaving a draft. The manager at the hospital who, when I went in to complain about being railroaded into agreeing a placement again, completely reorganised things so the UTI patient was transferred to a rehab place, despite my saying that I had agreed to her coming back, the patient was expecting it, as she could see the state i was in.
The current repiratory complaint I have, much worse than the usual stress release cold, virus in the nose, phlegm in the bronchi, tmperature, confined to bed, sweating....I can't have a physically vulnerable person in my house!
The local rector who is agood listener and made me feel much better when I was feeling very anti a deity who allowed me to think that my house was on its way to being my home again, for four days before the hospital insisted my guest was coming back.
The friend who is pushing my book on to a publisher friend, who likes th ebit he has been shown. Serious editing now in process - well, not now, I'm too coldy.
My faceid on my iPhone stopped working for the second time in a year. Grumble grumble grumble. I looked up how to fix it. First step was: be sure your OS is up to date. Grumble grumble grumble. So I updated and then — astonishingly! — that was all it needed and faceid started working again!
Penny, that is good news . If I were fitter I would be doing cartwheels.
I am giving thanks for the honest people who turned my phone over to the bus driver on Thursday. I picked it up from the lost property office today. Now I don't have to learn how to use a more complicated phone nor face the rude so-called ninjas at Voddaphone.
Hint to self; Never leave something on the bus on Maundy Thursday - the bus office isn't open until 10 a.m on the following Tuesday.
A couple of things: a friend's son, who has been working in a coffee shop, firstly as a manager, then as a counter slave after his branch closed, has landed a job as either an infrastructure techie or a web developer at a small IT firm. Both teams want him! Subject to security checks but he has passed those OK in the recent past.
Secondly, my place has recruited another person to take the load off me. I have been on my tod since August when our consultant wasn't renewed, but this guy who has joined was with us for two years beforehand, and is very knowledgeable and generally one smart cookie. I am very, very grateful!
We *finally* got our new fridge installed yesterday; not without some angst, and it isn't absolutely perfect* because there are no straight lines in this house - but it's a fridge and I am so grateful!

Wonderful. I lived in a house a bit like that for many years. Even though the doors looked identical, no two were identical in size. Not much different but the frames were made to fit what was on hand.
Too late. And it wasn't the railroading, it was the sight of someone in tears, believing she'd been dumped, and afraid she would die in a grey room in the night with no-one there. And who'd been told on two occasions she was going out from there, when she wasn't because the householder had not been informed. And was confused, and miserable.... (My mother warned me about religion based on Revelation, Daniel, and Matthew 24. Not about Matthew 25.)
Mind you, the person who told me she was continent was being economical with the verity. Had to get myself out of my bed of sickness to change puppy pads on the floor and the chair while her son changed the pad she was wearing. She can't manage it herself. And it didn't look healthy - so if they've got her out without clearing up the UTI....
However, as this is a thanks thread, thanks that we were sent the intelligent and thoughtful nurse this afternoon, who is aware if the problems and with whom we had a decent discussion. A lot of them don't look past the legs. And she understood about the situation where they had been holding on to her for a couple of weeks while supposedly exploring options, but totally failing to find any, because they don't exist.
For my friend K, who made her perpetual vows as a religious sister yesterday. The Mass was wonderful, with an inspiring music group, and lots of involvement from her friends of all ages. The party was great with home grown entertainment compared by a nun who ought to be running a comedy club or similar. The food illustrated the parable of the loaves and fishes, I think we could all have taken home much more food than we arrived with.
Little Beaky turned two earlier this year- his disabilities are becoming more and more complex and his lovely parents struggle from time to time to keep their spirits up.
Then today they posted on a social media website something inexpressibly precious:
a video of Little Beaky laughing and laughing at the noise being made by the builders.
Laughing is just one of many simple pleasures they were told he probably would never manage.
They waited more than two years for it but what a joy!
We are celebrating my mum's 90 th Birthday...a lovely lunch in a very nice restaurant with some, not all, of the family. Her three children all together though.
Happy birthday to her Dormouse. So called Mother’s Day here, Hallmark holiday. I tell my sons no presents.Middle son and DIL came up yesterday. They brought some good biscuits and I made good coffee. Am enjoying the last Florentine with coffee as a treat after breakfast. DIL needs gluten free and these fit the bill nicely. Decent chocolate on them too.

Loth, hoping the improvements continue.
