At least it was commending and not condemning.

From a fairly recent issue of the Church Times that happened to come my way,

    Pupils take to donated organs

This turns out to be nothing to do with the wonders of modern medical science or even with eye surgery, but is about a scheme to promote musical education in schools by recycling second hand pipe organs.

    What an excellent idea!

Yes, but what are hand pipe organs? We have a right to know!

Oh, there are such things. They are small and the bellows are pumped by hand. (Mr Cats is the founder of the Scottish Historic Organs Trust and spends much time trying to get Scottish organs recycled. Recently he spent a week in Preslau, Germany, celebrating the réinstallent of an organ.from Kilbarchan.

    Who'd have thunk! :open_mouth:
  • Here we go again: from "Rail Advent" - "Two trains crash in Bedfordshire as emergency services head to scene". A tragic occurence, but I doubt if the emergency folk were clairvoyant!
  • Not a verbatim quote from the TV news headline crawl, but close enough:

    Wildfire grows, sparks evacuation.

When even the sparks evacuate, you KNOW it's serious! (We'll overlook the pun.)

When I worked in a research hospital, 'evacuate' meant something different. And yes, a scary wildfire could well spark an evacuation.
  • BBC sport: "Amad starts for Ivory Coast as Germany unchanged". What, do they sleep in their kit?
  • On this morning's TV news crawl:

Man shocked while tampering with electrical substation equipment.

Well, I never! The very idea!

Has anyone seen a missing Giraffe? Gracie went missing from the Cedar Hollow Ranch in Real County, Texas. She apparently wandered off through an open gate. She has been spotted on game cameras in the area.

Apparently, according to the morning news, she is still on the loose. She has been on the loose for two weeks now. She has been seen on game cameras, but not in the flesh.

At least she has been spotted. Spot on there!

Gracie has been caught and returned to the ranch. Turns out she was not that far away from her enclosure. She had found water and trees whose leaves she was able to eat. All is well.
  • Strange but true from "Nation.Cymru": "Vintage bus experience to honour legendary opera star at heritage event". It's at Llangollen, home of the Eisteddfod where Pavarotti often performed. I'm not convinced that he was a bus enthusiast though ...
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Maybe the buses just want to pay their respects ...
  • Wesley JWesley J Circus Host
He was pretty voluminous, so perhaps a bus was a better choice than a limo?

And there was me thinking Pavarotti was a real person!

    From BBC Hampshire:
Swan rescued by kayak released back into the wild

I didn't know that kayaks were ever released back into the wild, nor that they were capable of rescuing swans of their own accord.
  • From the BBC (via today’s Private Eye):
Greggs closing stores due to baking temperatures

Usual baking temperature is about 180°C, isn't it?
