Calling Ruth to Hell

In over two decades on the Ship I have only called one other person to Hell
Ruth you complain about British attitudes but you are rude when you think you are being forthright.
You show little or no understanding of the way we are but expect us to be totally understanding of how you feel. Not all Americans on the Ship, you and one or two others .
You expect one thing from other but do not treat others the same.

You accuse me of starting a thread to moan about the US when I started a thread about the World Cup and its organisation.
You are at times outright rude.

You're calling someone to Hell because you think they're being rude to you in a thread you started in Hell?

    Well, from the OP...

...from what I can tell the
US and FIFA are not doing a great job.

The President seems to want to use it for political shenanigans.

So, yes. By the same textual evidence that would show the thread to be about FIFA, it is also about the US.

I think all they would do is lock it.

For myself, I would object to the thread being outright removed, because I don't think you want a situation where someone can start a thread attacking another poster, and then get it wiped from existence without the other poster even knowing that the thread had ever existed.

Also, I would think that if you regret what you wrote to the point where you want it gone, you should at least apologize for it.

I asked for it to be removed practically straight after I wrote it. So it would be gone before anyone realised it had been up. I could then PM Ruth and apologise without causing any embarrassment to either of us. That has not happened.
I have explained that in using the term US I was following the standard that uses the country name to mean the government or organisation. That is a world wide standard so I was not getting at the US I have too many friends there.

I do regret what I posted and apologise to Ruth. I find your post often Rude and show a lack of understanding. That is on me and I apologise.

Not sure if I'd call an 8 to 9 minute lapse "practically straight after" the posting, but these things are subjective.

I have explained that in using the term US I was following the standard that uses the country name to mean the government or organisation.

Well, just to be clear, someone reading the OP of this particular thread would likely assume that you hadn't mentioned the US at all in the other thread's OP, only FIFA.

I do regret what I posted and apologise to Ruth. I find your post often Rude and show a lack of understanding. That is on me and I apologise.

So you're apologizing to Ruth, then telling her you find her rude, and THEN telling her that the fact you find her rude is your fault, and apologizing for that.

Personally, I've always found that when someone tells me that I have a particular negative personality trait, and then qualifies it with "But that's just me, I'm probably just oversensitive", I don't usually feel that I've been completely absolved of the original accusation. Granted, tone-of-voice can make a difference, but I generally wouldn't recommend it as the way to phrase a retraction.

I meant it as apology. No one is perfect least of all me. I just wanted to be clear. I meant it as it was written. I am dyslexic and sometimes things that sound right to me may not sound right to others . Please accept that this was an apology. Hopefully that clears up things.

If one writes something apology-worthy and embarrassing, the least they can do is stand and face the music.

As I said I wanted to save face for both of us. I made a mistake I have admitted it and apologised. I can do no more.

How does anything you've said save face for me?

In your shoes I would find a thread like this undignified. If you do not then that is how you feel. I acted in haste originally and regretted it. I then acted with the best intentions as I saw them. If that was a mistake it was a mistake. As I said I am far from perfect.

How can something you've done be undignified for me?

I usually hear "He needs to save face" applied to the person who has done something he might regret and find embarrassing. Going by your own description of what's happened on this thread, that would describe you, but not Ruth.

That is not how I think. I see it the way I have said. I have known from a boy that I see things differently. Because I have been on here for so long I tend to take it for granted that everyone knows.

That is how I would feel. Agreed I am not you but there we go. You asked why I gave my reasons. As above I do not think like most people.
I have tried to put things back on an even keel I can do no more.

Just to be clear, and, granted, speaking as someone who has less intimate interaction action with you than many other Shippies do, I personally have never noticed that you "see things differently". Not saying you're wrong about that, it's just never something that's jumped out at me personally. I noticed a few syntactical and formatting errors earlier on this thread, but I just figured you were on a bus or something.
