Bristol Shipmeet?

How many shipmates can get to Bristol and would be interested in a shipmeet?

I rather fancy meeting at Bristol art gallery which is about a 20 minute walk from the bus station and 15 minutes from Temple Meads.

I've never been, but it looks to have a very nice cafe. Open Tuesday to Sunday.

It's too far away from me but I think there's a typo in the thread title...

Too far for me too, but living in Scotland has clearly done a number on my estimates of journeys. My first thought was "oh, but that's only a couple of hours by train isn't it?" before realising that (1) you're on the wrong side of London for Paddington and (2) in parts south even 2 hours is more than most people would consider for a day trip.

Alas, yes - you're quite correct. It's certainly possible from here, but only if one isn't disabled...
    :disappointed:

I wish I'd visited Bristol whilst I could, as Id love to see the Great Britain now she's restored.

I might be up for this depending when it is as I am intending to visit Bristol to catch up with some friends sometime early in the new year.
  • When? It would have to be a Saturday.

    Indeed there is!

    Maybe clickbait? 😂

Please could a kindly AS host correct it?

Hmm... We do occassionally go to Bristol, usually for things at the cathedral.
I think I've been to the museum - as a parent helper on a school trip about 25 years ago to see the Egyptian mummies.

I saw the thread title and thought of "ship-shape and Bristol fashion." Do people still say that? I'm sure I picked it up from 19th-century novels.
  • I don't know. It's a phrase I know, but don't use.

I rather liked "Bristol Shipment", but your wish is my command  .

It's occasionally used here in Arkland...

Around 10 minutes walk from my flat (or 1 minute from church).

From bus station more like 10-15 minutes walk (but is is uphill). Buses from Temple Meads Station stop just across the road from the Art Gallery.

From distant parts of UK flying to Bristol Airport is quicker (and usually cheaper) than train. There is a direct bus service from the Airport to Bristol Bus Station.
  • I'd need to check the train timetable. From Birmingham it should be easy but I live north of Birmingham...
Then again, I would always prefer to drive...

West End and Trenchard Street multi-storey car parks are both only a short walk away from the proposed venue.

    How about Saturday January 24th?

That's clear for me at the moment, but please don't work it round me or rely on me being there, much as I'd like to. With a possible house move in the early part of the year, and having been informed this morning by Mr Nen that our feet won't touch the ground for the next three months, I don't know whether I'll be coming, going, or airborne :flushed: .
  • I could probably come but I think I'll pass. Thanks.

Should be possible but will depend on time of day (late morning and lunchtime OK) and the state of my health (waiting for major surgery to be scheduled).
  • Is it still on?
  • BoogieBoogie Heaven Host
    Yes, maybe for lunch?
  • NenyaNenya All Saints Host, Ecclesiantics & MW Host
I won't make it; so sorry.

If our planned move happens we'll still be within striking distance of Bristol so I hope there will be another opportunity.
  • The car park by the Great Britain was the cheapest.

I might be available (depending on times) as returning a twanglet to uni

I'm thinking of arriving at about 12:30 for lunch then a mooch. 🙂

Sorry I won't make it this time. I hope to be meeting my friends later in the year, but things have gone a bit quiet on the front at the moment.
  • JLBJLB Shipmate
I'm afraid that I won't make it either - just too much on at the moment.
  • BoogieBoogie Heaven Host
    Never mind.

    Another time 🙂
  • I’m fairly recognisable as I’m in a wheelchair. Are we meeting at the cafe?
  • Sorry that I will not be able to make it this time. Saturday afternoons are scheduled for preparing music for the choir for services on Saturday evening and Sunday morning and generally getting the church ready. Unfortunately the person that I normally share this task with is away this weekend, so I shall be singlehanded. I shall be with you in spirit but about 200 yards away in the flesh.

    I've sent you a message @Priscilla but I don't think you've seen it.

    I'm going later now,

I'm really sorry it's such late notice. Mr. Boogs has to give me a lift to the bus stop to Bristol which is 15 minutes drive away. He can't give me a lift until later. We are having a building job done and the builder has changed the time of his appointment.

    Sorry again!

So it will just be for coffee. I hope that's OK.

My bus arrives at 14:17 so I should be at the gallery cafe by 14:30.

    Boogie

I'll message you with my phone number. 🙂

Hope you had a good time, sadly my timings didn't work out.
