Meanwhile, on a somewhat related tangent, I see that Angela Rayner has been cleared by HMRC of any wrong-doing over her tax affairs.

No doubt the right-wing muck-digging orcs are gnashing their fangs...

Ha! Just turned up on my Facebook feed. Polanski admits to returning his library books 3 days late

I'd like to be able to triumphantly yell "I called it!!", but in all modesty, overdue library books have a long history as the humourous go-to contrast for more serious wrongdoing. SCTV did "Library Police" in the 1970s, and later generations saw the same routine on Seinfeld.

(I will read into the record that as a child, I got a notice from the library that if I did not pay a fine, somewhere between 5 and 10 dollars, IIRC, "...the matter will be settled by a collection agency.")

I'd like to bid for "walked down the escalator at King's Cross St Pancras on the wrong side" as the next one.

Another variation, at least in N. America, was tags on mattresses reading something like DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW. National Lampoon's Crime issue in 1972 featured a cartoon on the cover portraying that action as a film noir scene.

In fact it was 'didn't manage to vote because he'd just moved address'!

Probably playing safe to avoid accusations of voting twice.

Conversely, contesting an election whilst not voting is not a good look for a politician - and it is not like people did not know the election date in advance to organise themselves.

The English and Welsh Greens candidate in Makerfield had to stand down for bigoted antisemitic social media posts. It looks like their candidate vetting is rubbish
