I am curious about how people strategize. I always go to the NYT Wordlebot to analyze after the fact, but I don't really subscribe to its approach. It's very statistically-driven, the data analytics attitude that has ruined most professional sports, and always plays the probabilities. It almost always starts with SLATE or STARE or something similar (always A and E), and plays the odds--it has access to the Wordle dictionary, which gives it an edge. I try to use different start words all the time, because I find it more fun to improvise. If I get three letters correct on the first round, I begin trying to guess the answer; if I get less than three, I pursue an elimination strategy on the second round. Then I make a list of possible solutions, and if there are more than three, I try to find a word that will eliminate as many of them as possible, and go for a solution in four. If there are three or less, I just start guessing. What do you do?
Insofar as I have a strategy, I try to pick a starting word with high probability letters. I have also fallen into a loose strategy of focussing first on identifying/eliminating vowels. Whether it’s a strategy or a challenge, I’m not sure, but I try and avoid using words which I know can’t be right - using a letter that has already been eliminated, or in a position which has been shown to be wrong.
Yes, I go after the high-probability letters first, usually starting with a word with three vowels (though I’ve experimented with beginning by eliminating consonants with words like SNORT, SHORT, SHARD, or SHIRT, and that seemed to work reasonably well).
I will occasionally use eliminated letters or out-of-position ones when I’m faced with more than two possible solutions. For instance, if I have confirmed _RAI_, the possibilities include TRAIN, TRAIT, TRAIL, FRAIL, GRAIN, and GRAIL. I would use FLINT or FLING to eliminate/confirm 4 of the 5 possible letters.
My starter word is a mixture of high probability letters and a couple mid-range letters, because if those hit I have a huge leg up on solving. If the starter word does not give me a promising start, my second seed word is purely high probability letters. Between the two words, I burn through 4 of the 5 vowels.
Strategy on Quordle is more complex, but I use the same starter and (occasionally) second seed word. Below, I did use the second seed word because my results on my first word were...underwhelming.

Definitely ‘Phew!’ today. A not-very-helpful pattern emerged early. After five my brain refused to come up with any words that the remaining letters could make. In the end I wrote out on paper the established pattern and then only the remaining letters. Once I’d done that I hit in the answer within a minute or two.
With regard to the lower right, guess 8: it really is quite an achievement to find a word that has ALL the correct letters and yet have NONE of them in the right position!

Insofar as I have a strategy, I try to pick a starting word with high probability letters. I have also fallen into a loose strategy of focussing first on identifying/eliminating vowels. Whether it’s a strategy or a challenge, I’m not sure, but I try and avoid using words which I know can’t be right - using a letter that has already been eliminated, or in a position which has been shown to be wrong.
I will occasionally use eliminated letters or out-of-position ones when I’m faced with more than two possible solutions. For instance, if I have confirmed _RAI_, the possibilities include TRAIN, TRAIT, TRAIL, FRAIL, GRAIN, and GRAIL. I would use FLINT or FLING to eliminate/confirm 4 of the 5 possible letters.

My starter word is a mixture of high probability letters and a couple mid-range letters, because if those hit I have a huge leg up on solving. If the starter word does not give me a promising start, my second seed word is purely high probability letters. Between the two words, I burn through 4 of the 5 vowels.
Strategy on Quordle is more complex, but I use the same starter and (occasionally) second seed word. Below, I did use the second seed word because my results on my first word were...underwhelming.
